More details

Emma Jane Champley was born in England but she spent most of her formative school years in Milan, surrounded and inspired by Italian art and architecture. Her artistic temperament mapped her path through the art school system and in 1994 she graduated with a BA Honours degree in Jewellery & Silversmithing from Loughborough College of Art and Design.
She gained invaluable experience in the trade while working at a leading studio in London’s Jewellery Quarter, before moving to Ireland in 2003 where she now lives with her family.
Emma works with silver, gold, resin, wood, semi precious and precious stones to create one off commissions and statement collections.  She takes her inspiration from the human form and aims to make pieces that sit comfortably on the body.  Her passion is silver, exploring this beautiful metal's capacity and showcasing it in its purest form, employing simple, elegant shapes that are highly polished or roughly hammered.  Despite working as a jeweller for many years she continues to be intrigued by fastenings, and often the closing and opening mechanisms take centre stage in her work, resulting in a playful dialogue between form and function.  She likes to invited the wearer to interact with the jewellery, to be aware of it through its weight, feel or the sound that it makes.
Emma Jane is a registered member of the DCCOI and a VEC tutor for the Kilkenny and Carlow Education and Training Board.
