More details

Maria's artworks often resemble maps and unfailingly refer to the landscape and more especially agriculture.  They are monuments to mankind and their very great endeavor to work the land in desolate areas with unpredictable climates, in order to eek out a subsistence living.  "I only emulate what I see in my work, and what moves me", says Maria Simonds-Gooding.  Earth Shelterings III relates to a place Maria visited in Lanzarote.  The horse shoe shapes refer to the walls farmers build to protect their vines from the force of trade winds.  The circular shapes are representative of shadows thrown by the sun.
