Pete Monaghan has exhibited widely in both the UK and Ireland.  His subject matter focuses on the wild, weather-beaten celtic fringes, paying particular attention to vernacular architecture, especially barns and farmsteads.  He strives to present his subject with down-to-earth honesty.

In the studio he encourages paint to drip and pool, and also uses elements of collage to include maps and corrugated cardboard. "I aim to set up a dialogue in painting avoiding direct representation to create compositions full of energy and tension and yet retaining absolute integrity".

Baile Na Sceilge is the Irish for Ballinaskillgs, a Gaeltacht village in the south-west of Iveragh peninsula, County Kerry.  The rock(s) referred to in the village's Irish name are the Skellig Islands.
