The Hedge Armchair is named after a style of Irish/English country furniture (1750-1900) made from local wood, and often hedges. In addition some hand held tools. This style was prominent during the Irish famine years, and subsequently the furniture is very poignant. In the past this style was relegated to the lowly ranks of firewood, until Claudia Kinmonth’s book Irish Country Furniture, published in 1990.
