The history chair, designed by Peter Sheehan & Cathal Loughnane, was first shown as part of ‘Wallpaper* Handmade’ in Milan in 2012 resulting from a unique collaboration with Joseph Walsh’s Workshop. It has also featured in ‘Vernacular’ at the London Design Festival in 2014 and was included in the flagship ‘Liminal’ exhibition throughout the year of Irish Design in 2015.
In 2017 an edition of 12 ash and 12 walnut chairs was commissioned by Henrik Lindberg for the Lindberg offices in Aarhus and near Zurich – and for his residence.
The chairs are made to individual order, in ash, French walnut or oak by Ryan Connolly in his workshop in Monaghan.
The leather pads, which are held magically by magnets hidden within the structure of the chair, are handmade to order by the saddle maker Thomas Berney.
Each chair is numbered.
Peter & Cathal’s work is elemental, quiet and tactile with meticulous attention paid to every surface, transition and edge. The chair is made to sit in and contemplate. In 2019 a complementary desk was developed, with both the chair and desk included in the Design & Crafts Council of Ireland’s Portfolio Critical Selection for 2021/2022, exhibited at Doneraile in the summer of 2021.
