Three Bud Vases by Non Violent Cutlery. A triptych designed to illustrate the life of the tree, capturing all the growth rings that show years of good growth and bad, and tell us the tree grew on a hillside with its off centre pith. Two of the three vases are spalted, to illustrate the fungus, which finally felled the tree, as shown by a small crack in one of the three vases. There is even the lichen that the tree became a home included incorporated in this triptych. A homage to an apple tree. Approximately each piece of the triptych 30 cms high.
Michael Murphy is the maker behind Non Violent Cutlery. He works primarily in wood, reimagining traditional everyday objects through texture and form. Michael uses fresh green wood, harvested from winter storms. He deliberately allows pieces to deform and crack and thereby express the concealed tension that lies latent in the wood.
